Wall Street’s sell-off of enterprise software stocks resumed in earnest late last week, sending stocks such as ServiceNow and Snowflake down around 8% or so on Friday, as jitters over the impact of new AI tools on older software firms intensified. But the panic may be too indiscriminate. One way of sorting out which software firms may have more of a future is to look at their spending on research... Read more ›

The word clanker — a disparaging term for AI and robots — "has made its way into the Linux kernel," reports the blog It's FOSS "thanks to Greg Kroah-Hartman, the Linux stable kernel maintainer and the closest thing the project has to a second-in-command." He's been quietly running what looks like an AI-assisted fuzzing tool on the kernel that lives in a branch called "clanker" on his working kernel tree.... Read more ›

We spend a lot of time at The Verge waxing poetic about the latest gadgets, but sometimes it’s the last-gen devices from several years ago that offer the better value. The 2021 Kindle Paperwhite is a great case in point — especially since you can grab it at Woot in refurbished condition with lockscreen ads, […] Read more ›

Read more ›

Lazy loading is not a new concept by far. The idea is simple – defer loading some of the heavier elements of a page until the lighter ones are loaded. That way, the user can start interacting with the content sooner rather than later. Since 2019, Chrome and Chromium-based browsers have had lazy loading for images and iframes. Both types of elements will only start loading once the user scrolls... Read more ›

The next Sony Xperia 1 (number VIII) may finally bring a redesign to the (a bit stagnant) series. Case renders from China show a new camera island design, a more conventional (rather Moto-like) square camera island. The vivo X300 Ultra is official in China. It brings a larger 200MP main 35mm camera, a Snapdragon 8 Elite gen 5 SoC, a larger 6,600mAh battery, and a faster 144Hz display, among other... Read more ›

The Samsung Galaxy A57 debuted last week, but it's still on top of our trending chart in week 14. It's also maintained a comfortable lead to the second place, which is once again occupied by the Poco X8 Pro Max. No change in third either, where we find the Galaxy S26 Ultra. [#InlinePriceWidget, 14379, 1#] Poco X8 Pro came in fourth, followed by the newly announced vivo X300 Ultra. Infinix... Read more ›

What do you need out of your EDC (everyday carry) earbuds? Monster battery life? Is 46 hours good enough? Active noise cancellation? We'd say up to 50dB of noise reduction is great! Strong sound quality? The Honor Earbuds 4 gives you dual titanium-coated drivers. Smart features? You get both press and swipe controls, like on some much more expensive offerings. Not bad. Now the price? Roughly $50-$70 (€45–€70), though they're... Read more ›
