A couple of weeks ago, VESA introduced a new top-level certification for displays called DisplayHDR True Black 1400, which increases the brightness requirement by 40% compared to the previous top standard (you guessed it, it’s up to 1,400 nits now). Samsung just announced that its new OLED display has earned this certification and that it is already supplying panels to laptop manufacturers.
The certification requires that black pixels remain at 0.0005 nits or lower while white pixels blast out 1,400 nits
