America’s body brokers turned donated bodies into a multimillion-dollar trade

A 2017 Reuters investigation traced 50,000 donated American bodies through 34 brokers in just four years, with more than 180,000 individual parts shipped to buyers ranging from surgical schools to Army blast-test labs — almost none of it described on the consent forms families signed.

Psychology says the reason attractive, kind people sometimes have no close friends isn’t a personality flaw — it’s that they’ve often spent their whole lives being chosen for what they provide rather than loved for who they are

Some people are very easy to choose. They look good in a room. They remember birthdays, ask the second question and know what to say when somebody’s life comes apart. They are pleasant to be around, useful in a crisis and rarely the person who makes the evening difficult. Their phones light up when somebody ... Read more Read more

Read more

"This does not mean DoorDash's custom-built drones will be delivering burritos tomorrow, or even next month," notes TechCrunch. "The company didn't provide a detailed timeline for when its aircraft would be used in operations." From the report: [I]t will likely begin with limited pilot programs in which the unmanned aircraft will travel... Read more

The generation that grew up with rotary phones, party lines, and having to knock on a neighbour’s door isn’t nostalgic for inconvenience, they remember when reaching another person required just enough effort to make the contact feel intentional

The generation raised on rotary phones and knocked-on doors isn't longing for inconvenience. They're describing something the friction produced: a signal that contact was chosen, not idle — a quality digital life has quietly stripped away. Read more

People who take the long way home even when they’re tired may not be wasting time, the drive between work and the front door can be the only stretch of the day that belongs entirely to them

The quiet reason some adults keep a drawer of pens, notepads, and unopened stationery they never use may have less to do with clutter and more to do with the self who once believed the right tools would finally make the writing happen

The unused notebooks and unopened pens in a household drawer are rarely about disorganisation. They are the archaeological residue of an ideal self who once believed the right tools would finally make the writing happen, and the psychology of why they stay is quieter and more tender than clutter.
