999 NASA’s X-59 is about to break the sound barrier for the first time

ScienceDaily
ScienceDaily · 06/01/2026 07:48 EDT

NASA’s futuristic X-59 jet is about to face its biggest challenge yet: breaking the sound barrier for the first time. After a successful series of test flights that pushed the aircraft to near-supersonic speeds, engineers are preparing to fly it faster than Mach 1 and eventually up to Mach 1.6 at 60,000 feet. The sleek experimental aircraft is designed to replace the thunderous sonic boom with a much quieter “thump,” a breakthrough that could help bring supersonic passenger travel back over populated areas.

Read more

Read more

SpaceX’s 74-Day IPO Sets Pace for OpenAI, Anthropic

SpaceX’s strong first week of trading made one thing clear: Racing through its IPO at warp speed cost it nothing. The company went from initial confidential filing to listing in just 74 days, much faster than other tech IPOs in recent years, including those of CoreWeave, Figma and Airbnb, an analysis of securities filings shows. Initial public offering lawyers and consultants say the speed reflects a more hands-off approach adopted... Read more

Researchers tracked honey bees in the wild using a drone-based system and found that each bee follows its own highly consistent flight path. Some repeated their routes so precisely that they flew only centimeters from where they had flown before. Landmarks like trees helped keep them on track, while uniform areas such as cornfields led to more variation. Read more
