American startup Substrate promises 2nm-class chipmaking with particle accelerators, at a tenth of the cost of EUV — X-ray lithography system has potential to surpass ASML's EUV scanners

A U.S. startup is developing a compact particle-accelerator-based X-ray lithography system that could surpass ASML's EUV scanners in resolution and cut wafer costs tenfold by the end of the decade, but its plan to build its own fabs rather than sell tools means it must reinvent the entire semiconductor production supply chain from the ground up. Affinity's Image-Editing Apps Go 'Freemium' in First Major Post-Canva Update

ArsTechnica: When graphic design platform-provider Canva bought the Affinity image-editing and publishing apps early last year, we had some major questions about how the companies' priorities and products would mesh. How would Canva serve the users who preferred Affinity's perpetually licensed apps to Adobe's subscription-only software suite? And how would Affinity's strong stance against generative AI be reconciled with Canva's embrace of those technologies. This week, Canva gave us definitive... Read more

Trump's FCC is officially moving to make it easier for internet companies to charge hidden fees

The Republican-led FCC has voted on and approved a proposal that would make it harder for consumers to receive itemized bills with accurate information from their ISPs, as originally spotted by CNET. This proposal revises previous "unnecessary" requirements on the grounds that a fact-based list of charges "may confuse customers." These changes would minimize the benefit of the so-called "nutrition labels" which are otherwise known as Broadband Facts labels. You've... Read more
