As fan complaints over game quality grow, The Pokémon Company has said it is now having "more and more conversations" about ensuring game standards - while keeping to the series' relentless release schedule. The live action Super Mario Bros. movie is getting a 4K theatrical re-release later this year

The Super Mario Bros. movie is getting a 4K theatrical re-release later in Japan this year. No, I'm not talking about the record-breaking movie starring Chris Pratt and Jack Black – I'm talking about the infamous 1993 live-action offering starring Bob Hoskins. In honour of the movie's 30th anniversary – and no doubt buoyed by the animated movie's recent success – on 15th September 2023, Japanese audiences will be treated... Read more ›

Hamilton Simulator is out now on Roblox

Here's a sentence I never thought I'd write: Hamilton Simulator is out now on Roblox. Hamilton Simulator sees you recruit your favourite characters and "take your shot as you traverse ten worlds, all straight from the world of Hamilton"."You’ll dispatch foes through rap battles, using each character's unique style to put together the perfect harmony for every battle," explains developer Super League. "Featuring music from the tony award winning musical,... Read more ›

Mark Cerny talks Dolby Atmos support for PlayStation 5

In the wake of our reporting on PlayStation 5's new Dolby Atmos support in last week's DF Direct Weekly, Sony's marketing team got in touch with a response from PS5 lead system architect, Mark Cerny, on how the new surround sound set-up actually works. In the Direct, we speculated that the PS5's existing, very impressive Tempest 3D audio data was most likely being recalculated and injected into the Dolby Atmos... Read more ›

Baldur's Gate 3 PSA: "Long Rest as often as possible. It will reduce bugs"

Baldur's Gate 3 players believe they've identified an issue "halfway through Act 3", which some believe hint at "a weird error with the way [Larian has] designed the whole narrative progression". In a post on the official subreddit that has racked up hundreds of up-votes, u/Neville_Lynwood has identified that although lots of players prefer to avoid Long Rests, failure to do so can impede progress, as Larian has "a lot... Players who send "silly threats" to Harada about Tekken 8's roster have a bigger impact than you think

Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada has spoken up the impact of trolling, revealing that even "silly threats" affect "everyone" in the fighting game community. In a lengthy tweet earlier this week, Harada expressed his frustration at some of the messages he receives, appending an image of one which threatened to "hit [him] with a burning hammer" if Eddy isn't in Tekken 8. "When people make these silly threats, I and... Read more ›

The very strange yet promising yet too-weird world of Eternal Champions

I can't remember when I bought Eternal Champions, which is annoying because I always remember obscure purchases to the detriment of remembering genuinely useful things. Besides the fact it would have been a Mega Drive game I hadn't seen before, I can be fairly confident that the game cover sold it to me. I would have been about 10 at the time and my sole reference point was occasional games... Read more ›

FC Barcelona is sticking with eFootball and extends its partnership with Konami

FC Barcelona has renewed its partnership with Konami, making the Japanese developer the "official football video game partner of the Catalan club". The renewal means that the Spanish champions remain as one of the "core clubs" featured in Konami's free-to-play football series, eFootball, which, of course, started life a long time ago as the premium football game, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). The formal partnership means Konami retains "multiple rights" with... Read more ›

Baldur's Gate 3 PC tech review: polish that puts other AAA games to shame

Baldur's Gate 3 has left a long early access period to critical acclaim and massive success - and after playing it I can understand why. Baldur's Gate 3 digitises the free-form gameplay of D&D in a way that keeps the spirit of the tabletop role-playing game intact, resulting in some of the most interactive and reactive narrative and gameplay that the medium has ever seen. Developers Larian are also using... Read more ›

Overwatch 2 is now Steam's "worst game of all time"

It was only released on Steam two days ago, but Overwatch 2 is already breaking records, albeit probably not the ones Blizzard was hoping for. In just 48 hours, the free-to-play hero shooter has become Steam's "worst game of all time". Despite peaking at around 75K players and amassing thousands of reviews, the shooter has leapt to the top of Steam's chart of the worst-received games after review bombers awarded... Read more ›

How En Garde!'s fencing earned its cinematic flourishes

During my twenties, I decided that I would start fencing. I wasn't very strong, but I did have some quickness and agility, and I liked how fencers seemed to epitomise those last two qualities. I wasn't very good at the sport, ultimately, because fencing doesn't just require speed and agility, but also timing, distance measurement, and skill. (I also foolishly approached it as something more instinctive than cerebral.) Fencing movements,... Read more ›

South Park: Snow Day and everything else from today's THQ Nordic showcase

THQ Nordic's annual digital showcase has been and gone for another year, and while there were plenty of familiar faces returning from 2022's showcase, it didn't bring a couple of new reveals. The publisher's South Park game finally got a proper unveiling, and was followed by announcements for the likes of Titan Quest 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, and more. For a full recap recap of everything... Read more ›
