Amazon Prime Gaming September titles include Football Manager 2023, wine-making sim Hundred Days

Amazon's Prime Gaming offers several free titles throughout the month of September, including Football Manager 2023 and the winemaking sim Hundred Days. In our Football Manager 2023 review on PC, we described it as "the best sim of its kind", however contributor Phil Iwaniuk felt the "lack of major improvements shows an annual release schedule taking its toll". As for Hundred Days, our Bertie spoke to Yves Hohler, lead designer... Read more

The Banished Vault review - dense and brilliant, like a neutron star

Like the beginnings of the universe, The Banished Vault starts out impossibly dense, before expanding outwards into something brilliant. On first glance it's almost inscrutable - but it's also tantalisingly simple. You, a crew of maybe half a dozen intergalactic monks, stranded at the frontiers of galactic exploration, have encountered something called The Gloom, a virus of darkness consuming one solar system at a time. Guided by little more than... Read more

CD Projekt says Cyberpunk 2077 only getting one expansion was "technological decision"

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has said its decision to only develop one expansion for its ambitious sci-fi role-player was based solely on "technological" factors. The drama around Cyberpunk 2077's initial launch and subsequent withdrawal from sale on PlayStation, as well as the game's overall sales figures, all had nothing to do with it, the developer has stated. "As we have announced a long time ago, we're not going... Read more

Where Winds Meet brings Wuxia to the West

When I first watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon I'd never seen anything like it. The balletic swordplay, gravity-defying leaps and beautiful cinematography were mesmerising. For me, as I suspect for many Westerners, this was my introduction to Wuxia - a genre of Chinese fantasy fiction focused on martial artists in ancient China. Chinese developer Everstone Studio has similar aspirations for its debut game. Where Winds Meet is a love letter... Read more

Finity review - a gorgeous puzzler that pits you against your own inelegance

It can be odd to discover, over time, what a game is really about. Finity is a match-three game for Apple Arcade. It delights in pastel colours and endless chiming sound effects. But what it's actually about is that crucial element of first-person shooters and MMO raids. Finity is about target priorisation. This is because, at any give moment, you might be able to make a handful of matches with... Read more

Bō: Path of The Teal Lotus is, understandably, a Metroidvania, but with a beautiful Japanese... Read more

Sea of Stars sells 100k copies in one day

Retro-style RPG Sea of Stars has sold 100k copies in just one day. It's an impressive number for the indie game from The Messenger developer Sabotage Studio. It's doubly impressive when the game was released simultaneously on both Game Pass and PlayStation Plus - the first game to do so. The sales announcement, made on X (formerly Twitter), specifies copies sold rather than the game's overall players, meaning that 100k... Read more
