Everyone loves Vampire Survivors, the budget-priced, super moreish bullet-hell game from Poncle. The game has seen various updates and expansions since its initial release in December 2021, and now the game is shedding its digital clothes and heading into the real world thanks to a board game. I don't mind admitting it; this little write-up would have been published much sooner if I hadn't made the silly mistake of firing up Dorfromantik first to give my brain a bit of a refresher. And, honestly, I should have known better. This gem from Toukana Interactive is easily one of my favourite – and I might even go as far as to suggest best – strategic puzzlers from the... Read more ›

There's a moment with Drag x Drive that I'm just getting grips with. I think there's potentially a lot of strategy in this moment, a lot of gamesmanship. But Nintendo's latest multiplayer confection is new and quite nuanced and so the entire playerbase is currently getting to grips with it too. I am genuinely fascinated to see, in a week or so, how it's all playing out. Read more Read more ›

Place and pacing are what Mafia: The Old Country does best. The artists and programmers at Hangar 13 have crafted an evocative and unflinching rendering of Sicily at the turn of the twentieth century: dappled lemon groves; vineyards snaking down steep hills; mines filled with indentured slaves, every face and fruit bowl lit with the exquisite, high-drama flair of a Caravaggio painting. The scriptwriters and narrative designers have kept up... Read more ›

Some neat news for mobile gamers, with both Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon arriving on mobile devices (Android and iOS) today. For those not in the know, Enter the Gungeon is a bullet-hell dungeon crawler rougelike, originally released back in 2016. The spin-off, Exit the Dungeon, is more of a dungeon climbing game, and first hit Apple Arcade back in September 2019. Read more Read more ›

We all wanted a Jurassic Park game that was closely tied to the original movie and also leant on the survival-action elements that make sense for a video game. We are getting that in Jurassic Park: Survival, but we're still waiting to see it in action. Today, Saber Interactive has at least given us a look at how the game is being made in collaboration with NBCUniversal. Read more Read more ›

August is the new Christmas for gen Xers and elder-millennials who go all misty eyed upon hearing the word "gibs". Nightdive's annual remaster of an FPS classic has become as much a QuakeCon tradition as judging who's got the filthiest keyboard, the one present guaranteed to be under the event's dripping, corpse-festooned tree. AOL is binning off its dial-up internet service after 30 years, which, frankly, is more surprising for the fact AOL still offered a dial-up internet service than for the fact it's closing it. Regardless, it's a milestone moment. AOL opened the doors of the internet for millions of people; its name was synonymous with it. And yes, I know that most of those people were Americans, the acronym AOL standing... Read more ›

If the recent unstoppable wave of cosy sims has taught me anything, it's that my life would be infinitely more tolerable if only I dropped everything to start a life of aggressive vegetable upkeep deep in bucolic isolation. Yet despite all this pro-turnip (and weirdly low-key horny) propaganda, the idea's never particularly appealed. Tiny Bookshop, though, might finally have convinced me that the time is right: so farewell all; I'm... Read more ›
