Stanley Parable and Tacoma creators fight back against onslaught of coffee games with tea-themed Wanderstop

Listen, I've got nothing against coffee games - they're some of my absolute favourites - but I've got to admit, I'm a tea-drinker at heart, and it always makes me a little bit sad when all I can serve in these games is a hot cuppa joe while tea gets relegated to the sidelines. Good on the developers at Ivy Road, then, for finally doing us tea-drinkers justice with their... Read more ›

Nightdive's The Thing remaster is official and coming later this year

Of no surprise to anyone given Nightdive's not exactly subtle tease earlier this week, cult classic squad-based survival horror shooter The Thing is getting a remaster - and it's launching later this year on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC. The Thing, developed Computer Artworks and released back in 2002, serves as a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1982 horror movie classic. It casts players as United States Army Special Forces... Gris studio's gorgeous wolf adventure Neva gets first gameplay trailer

After its intial reveal last year, the sad and beautiful wolf adventure Neva has got its first gameplay trailer. It's the next game from the maker of the equally sad and beautiful Gris, and yep, I'm stocking up on tissues now, this one looks to be a real tear-jerker.Revealed during tonight's Summer Game Fest, Neva's new gameplay trailer looks properly gorgeous, with sun-dappled landscapes aplenty, as well as cool, midnight... The Soulslike game from Chinese developer Game Science is now available to pre-order ahead of its release on 20th August this year, as announced at tonight's Summer Game Fest with a fresh trailer (see below). However, an FAQ for pre-orders states this release date is only for PS5 and PC as the Xbox version needs more time for optimisation. Read... Read more ›

Lego Horizon Adventures is a "playful and light-hearted" take on Guerrilla's franchise

The previously rumoured Lego game based on Guerrilla's Horizon series has been officially announced. It's called Lego Horizon Adventures, and it kicked off this evening's Summer Game Fest showcase. Batman Arkham Shadow might be VR, but it's the first DC game since Arkham Knight I'm actually excited for

With the Batcave-sized caveat that we're still yet to see gameplay, Batman Arkham Shadow - on paper at least - sounds hugely promising. It's a new chapter in the Arkham series where you actually play as Batman, crafted with a clear desire to build on the foundations of Rocksteady's iconic trilogy. It's built to a scope reminiscent of the original - and perhaps best - Arkham Asylum. And it lets... Read more ›

PowerWash Simulator - gaming's premiere squirt-'em-up - is poised to expand once more, this time venturing forth into Wonderland with a paid DLC inspired by Lewis Carroll's classic tales. The Access-Ability Summer Showcase is my favourite part of Summer Game Fest week

Periphery Synthetic, by ShiftBackTick, is a glorious thing. It's an exploration game and a playable EP. Existing somewhere between MirrorMoon, Soundvoyager for GBA, and Outer Wilds, it casts you out across a series of different planetary surfaces and asks you to make your own sense of everything. When I play the current demo, the screen draws an undulating alien terrain in little blocks of light. But I can play the game... Read more ›

More than 100,000 people are currently playing a Steam game where you click a banana

Steam is home to some absolutely brilliant games - everything from psychological horrors to adorable pet sims. It is also home to a game simply called Banana. "What exactly is Banana?" I hear you ask. Well, it's a free game where you do nothing more than click on the image of a banana, as a counter keeps a tally of how many times you have clicked it. That's all. And... Read more ›

Civilization 7 seemingly leaks ahead of official reveal

Civilization 7 has seemingly leaked ahead of a possible reveal this weekend. A banner for the game was spotted on the 2K website and shared on Reddit and Resetera, though has since been removed. The banner is little more than a logo, so no further details about the game are known. Last month 2K stated it would reveal a new game in one of its "biggest and most beloved" franchises,... Selaco is an extraordinary shooter that does backflips with the Doom engine

Selaco describes itself as a first-person shooter inspired by 1993's Doom and 2005's F.E.A.R. But to be perfectly honest, I think that undersells it. This wildly ambitious retro FPS plays like a potted history of the genre's golden age, melding all manner of ideas that emerged between the two key texts it cites as inspiration. The holistic worldbuilding of System Shock. The playful interactivity of Duke Nukem 3D. The crisp... Read more ›

What we've been playing - definitely not Bloodborne on PC

Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing over the past few days. This week we play probably the closest thing we're ever likely to get to Bloodborne on PC; we jump back in time in a retro-inspired RPG; and we enjoy the easy delights of this year's Clash Mini. What have you been playing? If you fancy catching... Game of the Week: Spelunky remains the game you can't finish

My position on things is that you can't really finish Spelunky. In Spelunky, a brilliantly malevolent yet dependable roguelike and platformer, there's always something more to try, something new you might learn.Even so, the degree to which I personally had not finished Spelunky lay far beyond what most people would mean by not having finished the game. More clearly: until this week, I had not defeated Olmec, the very first... Read more ›
