With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, average location opt-in rates for apps rose 39% in March 2020 to 10.7% in June, according to a new benchmark report published by customer engagement firm Airship. TikTok competitor Triller may have inflated user numbers

Triller, the video app touted as a prominent TikTok competitor, has apparently been inflating the number of its monthly active users. The app which has attracted some prominent TikTok users, last month boasted 100 million monthly active users. But according to a report published by Business Insider, six ex-employees are disputing these numbers. Consumers want more notifications from mobile apps in a post-COVID world

Consumers are demanding more information from apps to stay safe in a COVID-19 world. According to a study by Sinch, the cloud communications firm for mobile engagement, 91% of consumers would like mobile services to improve so they can continue to avoid crowds and spend less time in-store. In-app purchases outpace in-app ads for developer revenues

App developers have noticed a boost in revenues from in-app purchases versus in-app advertising. As in-app ad placements dropped during the pandemic, in-app purchases have grown during the same time frame. TikTok was installed over 63 million times in August

TikTok was the most downloaded app globally in August 2020. The popular short-form video app saw nearly 63.4 million installs which is 1.7% more than August 2019. Nike App downloads jump 150% during Q1 2020

During its latest earnings call, Nike confirmed that demand for its Nike App had jumped 150% during the first quarter of 2020. Its commerce app downloads rose 200% during the same period.
