Watch a drone refuel another aircraft in mid-air for the first time

An unmanned drone has refueled another aircraft during flight for the first time, a milestone that the US Navy says could help change future warfighting. Boeing’s unmanned MQ-25 Stringray plugged a hose into a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet and pumped 325 pounds of fuel into the fighter jet on June 4, the manufacturer announced on Monday. Tesla still leads in Norway’s real-world range test, but Ford is getting very, VERY close

If you’ve ever shopped for an EV you will have almost certainly compared how far your vehicles of choice can drive on a single charge. Most manufacturers quote a WLTP range, which is calculated from a lab test and is intended to give an idea of how far the car can go on a single charge. In reality, these WLTP figures can be quite far off the mark. If you’re... Read more

Apple’s Do Not Disturb update solves a dumbass iPhone problem

While last night’s software-focused WWDC didn’t get the same hype as Apple’s hardware events, the company did drop an array of exciting new features. My favorite? Well, that’d be the improvements to Do Not Disturb and the new Focus mode. I’d assume you’re one of two people: you’re either fist-pumping at this news, or you’ve never used Do Not Disturb on an iPhone. To put it bluntly, this feature is... Read more

Until now, iOS users have had to wait for the next version update to get bug patches. But that’s about to change. Last night, with iOS 15, the company announced that it’s separating security updates from software updates. Here’s what the firm says: iOS now offers a choice between... Read more

How can we make sure everyone benefits from the next quantum revolution?

Over the past six years, quantum science has noticeably shifted, from the domain of physicists concerned with learning about the universe on extremely small scales, to a source of new technologies we all might use for practical purposes. Why the dream of truly driverless cars is slowly dying

We were told there’d be fully-autonomous vehicles dominating roadways across the globe by 2018. When that didn’t happen, we were told they’d be here by the end of 2020. How hackers have manipulated Twitter’s trending algorithm for years

A new study has discovered a vulnerability in Twitter’s trending algorithm that makes the platform susceptible to astroturfing attacks. Researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) found that the social network doesn’t consider whether a tweet has been deleted when determining which keywords should trend. As a result, attackers can artificially push topics up the list of Twitter Trends and then remove evidence of the manipulation.... Read more

Apple AirTags review: Beautiful design, but… why?

The AirTags are an extremely first-generation Apple product. In other words they’re well-designed, exciting, and… flawed. Did I want one as soon as I saw them? Of course.
