The Information
Ann Davis Vaughan @ The Information · 06/22/2026 11:37 EDT

I’ve been visiting large AI data center projects in rural and industrial communities in the Midwest, Southeast and West, and I have found that two things can be true at the same time: AI data centers have drawbacks but are better for communities than their residents think, and those communities can win a lot more financial concessions and benefits from the tech firms than they realize. Some people are coming to this understanding much faster than others.

Read more

Read more

Linus Torvalds on AI, Junk Patches, Humans, and Godzilla

Linus Torvalds once said LLMs might bring a 10X increase to programmer productivity. But speaking at Open Source Summit India 2026, he now says that number was "not scientific," reports ZDNet. "That was pulled out of my ass number, obviously." Today, he continued, "we're at the point where hopefully it creates more productivity than it takes away," but "we certainly saw more junk being generated by LLMs than we saw... Read more

We tend to think detachment means becoming cold or disengaged, but occupational psychology uses the word differently: research finds that mentally switching off from work during your free time is associated with less exhaustion, fewer sleep problems and greater life satisfaction

Detachment has a chilly reputation. In ordinary conversation, it can sound like emotional distance, cynicism or a slow retreat from the people and tasks that once mattered. At work, the word can sound even worse, as if an employee has stopped caring, stopped trying or quietly checked out. Occupational psychology uses the word in a ... Read more Read more

At this year’s Milken Institute Global Conference, the discussions around enterprise AI had shifted. The question among executives was no longer if AI would pay off, but how. Many talked less about proving ROI and more about positioning their companies to capture it. That tension—between AI’s capabilities and organizations’ capacity to keep up—was evident everywhere, from panel discussions to a private dinner co-hosted by Aily Labs founder and CEO Bianca...
