897 Scientists make old blood stem cells young again in major anti-aging breakthrough

ScienceDaily
ScienceDaily · 05/12/2026 19:30 EDT

As blood stem cells age, their lysosomes become overactive and damaged, triggering inflammation and weakening the body’s ability to regenerate healthy blood and immune cells. By calming this cellular “overdrive,” researchers restored the stem cells’ youthful function, dramatically boosting their ability to regenerate and produce balanced blood cells.

Read more

iPhone 17 Prices Could Go Up as Soon as This Month

There is growing speculation that Apple may hike the prices of its iPhone 17 lineup as soon as this month, following CEO Tim Cook's recent comments about "unavoidable" price increases. Last week, Cook told The Wall Street Journal that Apple is no longer able to absorb the increased cost of memory and storage chips, both of which are in high demand from AI and neocloud companies. Cook likened the memory... Read more

A single cumulus cloud the size of a small village weighs roughly 500,000 kilograms, about the weight of 100 elephants, yet stays aloft because its water is dispersed as tiny droplets through air denser than the cloud itself

A fair-weather cumulus cloud the size of a small village holds about 500,000 kilograms of water — the mass of 100 elephants — yet floats because the droplets are scattered across a volume larger than a stadium and the warm air beneath is denser than the cloud spread through it. Read more

Scientists have found that staple-shaped particles can tangle together to create a material that is both strong and flexible. Unlike conventional materials, these particles can be locked into a sturdy structure or rapidly unraveled using vibrations. The unusual behavior could open the door to recyclable buildings, reconfigurable structures, and even futuristic robotic technologies. Read more

NASA satellites have detected a vast pulse of warm water reaching the coast of South America, signaling that El Niño is likely developing. The warm water is being carried eastward by massive ocean waves known as Kelvin waves, which also cause sea levels to rise. El Niño can reshape weather patterns worldwide, bringing floods, droughts, and temperature extremes. Read more

A new SETI study suggests we may be overlooking alien signals not because they aren't there, but because their own stars are scrambling them before they escape into space. Turbulent plasma and powerful stellar storms can spread an ultra-narrow radio transmission across a wider range of frequencies, making it much harder for traditional searches to spot. The effect could be especially important around M-dwarf stars, the most common stars in... Read more
