World's Largest Digital Human Rights Conference Suddenly 'Postponed'

RightsCon, one of the world's largest digital human rights conferences, was suddenly postponed by Zambia's government just days before it was scheduled to begin in Lusaka. Officials cited unresolved speaker clearances and "thematic issues," while Access Now said it had not yet received formal communication and was seeking an urgent meeting with the government. 404 Media reports: Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati first announced the postponement on April 28, saying that Zambia needed more time.

Samsung ultimately refuses BOE panels for the Galaxy S27, new report says

Last month we heard that Samsung was in talks with China’s BOE for the supply of OLED panels for the upcoming Galaxy S27, and BOE's displays were allegedly $5 cheaper than what Samsung Display could supply. So it seemed pretty inevitable that BOE would get the deal and the vanilla S27 would ship with the Chinese panels. Well, not so fast. A plot twist has emerged today. Apparently Samsung has... A new study modeling six of history’s deadliest heatwaves found that conditions had already crossed the threshold for human survival, and every single one of those events stayed below the wet bulb temperature long treated as the line between danger and death

For roughly two decades, a single number has anchored scientific and policy discussions about the upper limits of human heat tolerance: 35 degrees Celsius on the wet-bulb thermometer. Above this threshold, the theory holds, the body’s primary cooling mechanism — the evaporation of sweat from the skin — becomes physically incapable of removing heat fast ... Read more Read more

Wikipedia Cofounder Larry Sanger Banned From Site for 'Canvassing'

Wikipedia cofounder Larry Sanger has been indefinitely banned from editing the site after editors concluded that he violated its canvassing rules, "or in other words, calling on his followers off platform in order to influence Wikipedia's content," reports 404 Media. Sanger says the ban proves Wikipedia suppresses ideological diversity, while editors argue he was trying to mobilize an outside audience to influence internal decisions and had ignored an earlier warning.... Boffin Claims Microsoft's 'Quantum Leap' Is Invalid Due To 'Basic Python Errors'

A peer-reviewed Nature critique argues that Microsoft's 2025 Majorana quantum-computing breakthrough -- and its claim that it could enable "a truly meaningful quantum computer not in decades, as some have predicted, but in years" -- is fundamentally flawed. According to Dr Henry Legg, a lecturer at the University of St Andrews, the claims were undermined by omitted data, selective plotting, and basic Python errors that concealed alternative results. Microsoft, for... Read more
