Timex is resurrecting its first LCD watch 50 years later

In 1972, Hamilton’s Pulsar Time Computer launched the first commercially sold digital watch, but its LED screen was power hungry and only showed the time when you pushed a button. What helped make digital watches practical was the eventual upgrade to low-power, always-on LCD displays, which Timex first introduced on its SSQ watch in 1975. […]

Read more

Read more

Linus Torvalds: AI-Detected Bug Reports Make Kernel Security List 'Almost Entirely Unmanageable'

Today Linus Torvalds announced another Linux release candidate on the kernel mailing list. But he also highlighted "documentation updates" to address a new problem. "The continued flood of AI reports has basically made the security list almost entirely unmanageable, with enormous duplication due to different people finding the same things with the same tools." (The new documentation says the security team has found "bugs discovered this way systematically surface simultaneously... Read more

Scientists have achieved something that once sounded almost impossible: using ordinary sunlight to create quantum-linked photon pairs, a phenomenon normally dependent on precise laboratory lasers. By building a sun-tracking system that funnels sunlight through optical fiber into a special crystal, researchers generated strongly correlated photons capable of performing “ghost imaging,” where images are reconstructed indirectly through quantum correlations. Remarkably, the sunlight-powered setup produced imag Read more
