While it continues struggling to get one pirate adventure out the door - by which I mean its very long-in-the-works Skull and Bones - Ubisoft is reportedly prepping another: a remake of its rum-soaked high seas masterpiece, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. News that Ubisoft has finally decided to give everyone what they more or less wanted in the first place comes via Kotaku, which claims, citing two sources familiar with... Read more ›

Sega is not open to acquisitions from Microsoft or other companies, and will remain part of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. Earlier this week, as part of the FTC vs Microsoft court case, internal documents were released suggesting Microsoft had at one point considered buying the Japanese company to boost its Game Pass offering. Sega's co-chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi has now dismissed speculation the company is still open to acquisitions.... Read more ›

Returning to Crossbell and Erebonia left me surprisingly sentimental. Only three years have passed since my introduction to Nihon Falcom's RPG series, but Trails Into Reverie still feels pleasantly nostalgic, retreading familiar ground with a new high-stakes plot that provides critical reflection. After an incredibly long journey, Reverie calls time on Class VII and the Special Support Section's arcs while moving towards a new beginning. Set five months after Cold... Read more ›

Hugely popular game platform Roblox was blocked from launching on PlayStation consoles due to concerns by Sony, it's been revealed. Specifically, Sony was worried about the game's popularity among children causing problems for PlayStation. Microsoft's lawyer made a bit of a slip last night, casually stating that "The Elder Scrolls 16" will release in 2026. Needless to say, this is incorrect. The court case between Microsoft and the FTC came to a close yesterday, after several days of testimonies, revelations and Sharpie-related blunders. During the proceedings, Microsoft's lawyer took to the floor in a bid to clear up a bit of a misunderstanding surrounding... Read more ›

Fortnite is rising the price of its in-game V-Bucks currency in the UK, Canada and Mexico. In a blog post on the changes, developer Epic Games blamed "economic factors like inflation and currency fluctuations". Hello! This week our Game of the Week is actually two games - apologies to any purists. This is partly because I simply cannot choose between Synapse, a VR shooter that Ian absolutely adored, and Sludge Life 2, the parkour and graffiti adventure that I have finished playing and am still thinking about. But it's also partly because interesting things happen when you put these two games together. In terms... Read more ›

Larian Studios has once again addressed the Xbox version of its upcoming RPG Baldur's Gate 3, confirming that while it's still in the work, the developer may ultimately be forced to make "compromises" in order to release on the platform. Larian's struggles with Baldur's Gate 3 were first reported in February, when - amid fan concerns the game might have been secured a PlayStation console exclusive - the studio confirmed... The Danganronpa franchise, spearheaded by creator Kazutaka Kodaka, has endured an afterlife far beyond its humble origins as a PSP murder investigation and school life simulator run by a maniacal two-tone bear. It shows what good writing and character design can get you. Characters like Junko Enoshima are perhaps more recognisable today for their place in TikTok cosplay circles and Tumblr discussions than for the games they came from. The... Read more ›

When we were first introduced to Pioneers of Pagonia, a new city builder from original The Settlers designer Volker Wertich, earlier this year, there wasn't much to go on beyond a brief description and a teaser video. Now, though, with its early access release steadily drawing nearer, we've been given a first proper look at the thing via a new in-game trailer. Pioneers of Pagonia, to get the fundamentals out... As we clomp stompily toward RoboCop: Rogue City's September release, like some, oh, I don't know, machine-augmented crime fighter, developer Teyon and publisher Nacon have announced a closed playtest is happening next week. RoboCop: Rogue City - which is build around an "original story" set between RoboCop 2 and 3 - looks to land somewhere between a first-person shooter and cybernetically enhanced detective adventure, whisking players to the rain-slicked streets...
