Reverse-engineering Marathon's visual mood board magic

If extraction shooters are games in which you duck out of the fray between matches to look at what you just collected, I guess I'm almost playing Marathon the right way. I struggle to keep up with a team, let alone support other players in any meaningful manner, and I'm truly useless in most gunfights. But when the game is over I'm still eagerly checking through my winnings. Read more Read more ›

Megabonk and the mystery of the missing YouTuber - is creator Vedinad actually Danidev?

It all began innocently enough. It was September and Megabonk was blowing up on Steam, and I was curious. What was this game that had arrived without a formal introduction and raced to more than 100,000 concurrent players? "I was brought in to start throwing punches" - veteran exec Peter Moore reflects on the particular set of talents Microsoft needed to make Xbox 360 challenge PlayStation 3

Former Xbox boss Peter Moore has recalled why Microsoft poached him from Sega to head-up the company's Xbox 360 charge. He had experience launching the Dreamcast, yes, but more alluring seemed to be his experience of being part of Sega's battle in a console war. Microsoft needed someone to take the fight to Sony and PlayStation. Read more Read more ›

"Microsoft was afraid Sony was going to own the living room" - the big Xbox 360 interview

Peter Moore is one executive who can probably claim to have done it all. The Xbox 360 gave us one of the most wonderful racing games of all time, and it makes me sad to think about what we've lost

When I think about the Xbox 360 it's hard to not want to go back. I get this feeling whenever looking at old games, my memories of the experiences inseparable from my memories of life at the time. There's one game (series, really) that sticks in my mind more than any other, charting my path from a wannabe to an established member of the games press - that might sound... Read more ›

When the company burst onto the scene in 2015, the use of FPGA technology to run old games was relatively new.
