With a million sales to its name already, a lot of people are playing Remnant 2 right now, and developer Gunfire Games has confirmed its currently figuring out a way to give all of them the opportunity to play together through crossplay - meaning everyone's pool of potential co-op partners could soon get a whole lot bigger. That's according to Remnant 2 director and Gunfire Games president David Adams, who... Read more ›

This year's Call of Duty officially revealed as Modern Warfare 3

Activision has whisked back the curtain on this year's Call of Duty instalment, eliciting exactly zero gasps of surprise from anyone. As widely rumoured previously, it's titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and it's releasing on 10th November. Today's official reveal comes courtesy of a brisk teaser trailer which, alongside a whole lot of hyperactive whizzing between abstract pointy things, includes glimpses of a few familiar faces from the... DF Weekly: PS5 exploit opens the door to new PS4 60fps upgrades

Perhaps inevitably, Digital Foundry Direct Weekly returns once again with a new episode and it's fair to say that we have an exceptional line-up of topics and supporter questions this week. We've already posted an article about path-traced lighting coming to Skyrim, but what stood out to me this week was news about the discovery of a new exploit for PlayStation 5 - and it's already delivering 60fps upgrades for... Bayonetta's Hideki Kamiya believes Japanese developers should be "proud" of JRPG term

Hideki Kamiya, creator of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, believes Japanese developers should be "proud" of the term JRPG. Debate around the term recently resurfaced following comments from Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida in an interview with Skill-Up. Yoshida stated the term "wasn't a compliment to a lot of developers in Japan" and was seen as "discriminatory". Kamiya, however, is more positive about the term, believing it reflects the... The joys of Pokémon Go Fest London

Pokémon Go's newly-introduced Showcases are one of my favourite additions to the game in years. They're local leaderboards, in a nutshell - a feature which first debuted in developer Niantic's now-canned NBA All-Stars - that let you show off specific Pokémon and win in-game rewards. What's really great about Showcases, though, is their smart design with a very low barrier to entry, meaning there's no need to meet other players,... Read more ›

Street Fighter 6 reveals new character A.K.I. who poisons her opponents to death

Capcom made two Street Fighter 6 announcements this weekend at Evo 2023. The first was a reveal for the game's next character to be added, A.K.I., and the second was for an upcoming collaboration with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to promote the latter's new movie. A.K.I. is described as a "maniacal poison aficionado", and it's easy to see why from her reveal trailer. Read more Read more ›

Final Fantasy 16 sales did not meet high expectations, says Square Enix president

Sales of Final Fantasy 16 did not meet Square Enix's high expectations, said president Takashi Kiryu. Last week the company's latest earnings report was released and while net sales increased, operating profit dropped 79 percent from ¥14.4bn to just ¥3.0bn. During a post-earnings call to analysts, Kiryu said the high end of the company's expectations were not met and the slow adoption of the PlayStation 5 was a limiting factor,... Read more ›

A weekend with Clash Mini

I've been excited about Clash Mini since it was announced. The idea's simple: the Clash universe, with all the units and concepts I already understand, but this time instead of the streamlined tower-defence battles of Clash Royale, it's something closer to a brisk spin on the auto battler genre. This is a sort of game I'd always wanted to get into but struggled with. All of that combined with the... Read more ›

Pikmin 4 delivers an Unreal improvement over its predecessors

Hot off the heels of the Pikmin 1 and 2 HD remasters on Switch, we have a completely new series entry in Pikmin 4. It's been a decade-long wait, but in that time Nintendo has jettisoned its in-house engine in favour of Unreal Engine 4, which provides some of the most striking visuals seen on Switch to date. But how much of a graphical leap is it over the Wii... Read more ›

After 23 years, Starfield’s ancestor Noctis is still a vision of the future

Over the decades I've been playing video games, I've flown spaceships made of futuristic alloys and bubbles of energy, and I've flown spaceships hammered together from wooden planks, chunky metal bolts and flapping sailcloth. I've flown ships that extrapolate believably from the design of the International Space Station, and I've flown ships that are basically steam trains with an attitude problem. But not till Noctis, somehow, have I flown a... Read more ›
