You can steal one of Starfield's better suits early on, if you know how

It turns out you can pinch one of Starfield's better suits without picking locks. Not only that, you can actually get it quite near the start of the game. There are a variety of suits in Starfield, obtained in various ways. Some you can buy from vendors, others can be found by exploration and looting. Your usual video game fare. However, if you are canny and take the time to... Read more ›

Peter Molyneux says he regrets over-promising his games

The prominent (and at times controversial) developer Peter Molyneux has shed more light on his past interview appearances, saying he regrets the way he spoke back then. Molyneux has become known for describing his games in interviews only for the end product to not live up to those words, something which he has repeatedly apologised for in the past, describing his behaviour as over-excitement and lies to stop bored journalists... Alone in the Dark reboot delayed to avoid "chaotic" October release window

Alone in the Dark, the reboot of the survival horror title from the 90s, will now launch in January. Developer Pieces Interactive said it is "gracefully" stepping away from the "chaotic" October release window, to "avoid competing with the wake of Alan's epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man". The developer continued: "Horror games thrive on the delicate balance of... Read more ›

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk review - one of gaming's purest joys returns in this almost-sequel

Early on in A Burglar's Guide to the City, Geoff Manaugh's transporting and transformative book on the criminal uses of urban space, I met Bill Mason. Mason is a jewel thief, yes, but also a "watcher of buildings". He's pretty much a reader of buildings. Mason started out in real estate, and became intrigued by the apartments he was showing clients. "I liked buildings," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in... Read more ›

Here's Hollow Knight as a 3D game

As Hollow Knight fans still (im)patiently wait for news on sequel Silksong, one talented community member has taken matters into their own hands. On the game's subreddit, Poly Knight shared a video of the Mantis Lords boss fight recreated in full 3D (thanks TheGamer). It's a faithful recreation that proves what the 2D Metroidvania might look like as a 3D adventure. Read more Read more ›

Armored Core 6 now has an easy mode, thanks to a modder. FromSoftware's latest mech battler is a notoriously tricky game to get to grips with, especially its bosses. Yet thanks to modder Vawser and their EZ-Core mod on NexusMods, the game is a breeze (spotted by TheGamer). Read more Read more ›

Charles Martinet still doesn't actually know what a Mario Ambassador is

Mario Ambassador Charles Martinet is still unsure what his new role actually entails. Last month, Nintendo announced that Martinet, the exuberant voice of Mario, will no longer be the English voice actor behind Nintendo's most recognisable mascot, after almost 30 years in the job. Instead, it was announced, Martinet will now take on the role of a Mario Ambassador for the company. Nintendo said this new position will see the... Read more ›

Blooming heck, Pikmin Finder lets you hunt creatures in your house

Nintendo has launched Pikmin Finder, a charming but simple mobile browser-based AR game. Its concept is as you would expect, given the name of the game. You can move around your home, or surrounding area, and find Nintendo's unassuming but rather lovely plant-animal hybrid creatures hiding away. Once found and plucked with a simple swipe up of the finger, these flower-topped friendlies then proceed to find treasure you never knew... Read more ›

Inevitably, the latest DF Direct Weekly arrives today, with plenty of discussion about Starfield in the wake of the review embargo, while we also talk about the compromises required to get Baldur's Gate 3 out this year on Xbox Series consoles. Series S loses the challenging split-screen feature, with its addition planned for some point in the future. However, I want to spend the lion's share of this blog discussing... Read more ›

Persona 5 Tactica is a simplified, cute extension of Atlus' best

It's testament to Persona 5's critical success and popularity that, rather than give us the sixth entry in the series, Atlus seems intent on giving us another spin-off. Persona 5 Strikers already extended the narrative of the Phantom Thieves; now Tactica is giving us even more. But does this all leave the Persona 5 story now stretched too thin? At the very least, Atlus is mixing up the series' traditional... Read more ›
