Here's how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players will catch chocobo in the wild

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will task players with catching chocobo in real-time out in the wild. Of course, catching chocobo is nothing new for the series, but a new social post on X (formerly Twitter) from the game's official account shows how it'll work in Rebirth for the first time, with a video of Cloud catching one of the iconic yellow birds. The method actually looks similar to Breath of... Read more ›

With E3 dead and Japanese games better than ever, Tokyo Games Show is a fascinating place to visit

For many, E3 is considered the magical place where the video games industry comes together, for a show jam-packed with exciting game announcements, demos and exclusive access to developers from all over the world. For me, however, the one event in the games industry calendar that has always held the most fascination is Tokyo Game Show. I grew up as a Sega kid, and was fascinated by the company's stream... Vampire Survivors dev says it's "investigating" online co-op

Vampire Survivors developer Poncle has said it's "investigating" the possibility of adding proper online multiplayer co-op to its conspicuously vampire-free minimalist survival RPG, although there's no guarantee it'll actually happen. That tiny nugget of information comes via a new Ask me Anything (AMA) Q&A session, held earlier today on Reddit, in which Poncle occasionally had the opportunity to answer questions that weren't variations on 'Where the bloody hell are the... Starfield gets second "small update" targeting performance and stability

Two weeks after getting its first small update, Starfield has just got another, this one focussing on performance and stability, alongside a number of gameplay issues. All-in-all, it's not a particularly glamorous update, equating to a grand total of ten bullet points in Bethesda's patch notes, but if you've been experiencing the likes of characters not appearing where they should be, blurry textures, or a hitch-y hand scanner, this one's... Dev cancels Switch port of WipEout-style racer blaming controversial Unity fees

Following a tumultuous week for Unity, in which the company infuriated a significant portion of the development community by making dramatic changes to its engine licensing terms - only to then partially walk them back - at least one developer has had enough, announcing it'll no longer be porting its acclaimed game to Switch as a direct consequence of Unity's actions. Last Tuesday, Unity announced changes to its licensing agreement... Read more ›

Starfield already hosts hundreds of mods created by the game's community, designed to tweak Bethesda's sci-fi exploration RPG in all sorts of ways. But how many of those have been suggested by Bethesda itself? And how often is it the studio actually encourages one of its games' bugs to be reintroduced? Step up Bethesda level designer Zach Wilson, who revealed on X, formerly Twitter, that an early build of Starfield... Read more ›

DF Weekly: Should we expect more than last-gen console performance on Switch 2?

It's Monday, meaning it's time for us to publicly deploy the latest edition of DF Direct Weekly - and one of the topics covered this week concerns evidence from Activision's Bobby Kotick to the FTC during the Microsoft trial, more specifically the idea that he was briefed on the technology last year and believes that the hardware 'has closer alignment' with the last-gen consoles. This raises an interesting question: how... Read more ›

Nightingale must lean into its magic to survive

Firstly, I'd like to apologise to the team at Inflexion Games. I happen to share my name with their forthcoming gaslamp survival fantasy - to the extent they've had to mute me on social media so my silly little posts don't get in the way of them looking at what people are saying about Nightingale. And there's plenty to say, especially after I was able to get a good tour... Read more ›
