Inkbound review - another stand out roguelike by the Monster Train team

This time it's Hades that Shiny Shoe's game feels similar to, but with some delicious differences that make this roguelike stand out all on its own.To understand the allure of Inkbound, you have to understand a bit about the developer making it. Shiny Shoe made a game called Monster Train that came out a few years ago, and it was a roguelike deck-building game influenced by Slay the Spire, but... Read more ›

Journey studio's Sky: Children of the Light finally arrives on PC

It's been just shy of a year since ThatGameCompany (of Journey and Flower fame) confirmed Sky: Children of the Light was PC-bound, but the acclaimed free-to-play "social adventure" has now finally launched on Steam, initially as an early access release. Sky: Children of the Light is far from a new game, of course; it originally launched for iOS all the way back in 2019 before making its way to Android,... Read more ›

Laysara: Summit Kingdom, the promising mountain-themed city builder from developer Quite OK Games and publisher Future Friends Games, has surprise-launched on Steam, where it's expected to remain in early access for between six and 12 months. Laysara - which sets itself apart from other city builders with its focus on mountainous verticality and theme-appropriate hazards, including avalanches - has been popping up here and there for a while now (it... The best of the Triple-i showcase

Tonight marked the first ever Triple-i showcase, a new digital event highlighting a vast number of indie game projects on the way. The "no nonsense" showcase was initially created by Dead Cells developer Evil Empire, which said the goal was to create a "straight-to-the-point show packed with announcements as a collective of studios, to speak directly to players [with] no hosting segments, no advertisements, no sponsorships, no extra fluff, just... There's a lot of Dead Cells in The Rogue Prince of Persia

My half-hour spent playing The Rogue Prince of Persia felt a bit like coming home. And not particularly because of the Prince of Persia bit, if I'm honest. I still love the Prince, but I also appreciate that they feel like Ubisoft's new minister without portfolio at the moment: they're a little unmoored, and they go where they're needed. They're willing to drop into a Metroidvania for The Lost Crown... Read more ›

Slay the Spire is getting a sequel

Deck-building roguelite Slay the Spire is getting a sequel. It was announced at tonight's Triple-i showcase with a suitably gloomy animated trailer, featuring three characters seemingly from the original game: The Ironclad knight, The Silent huntress, and a new skeletal necromancer character called The Necrobinder. There's no release date yet, but the game will be released in early access in 2025. Read more Read more ›

Dead Space 2 remake was reportedly in development, but not any more

Despite the original Dead Space getting the remake treatment, the same isn't happening for its sequel, at least not now. According to the ever chatty Jeff Grubb, a Dead Space 2 remake was in the works at EA. However, the studio has since shelved the project "because the first game had lacklustre sales". "If you were looking forward to a Dead Space 2, it's bad news. It's straight up is... Read more ›

Hellblade 2 looks like the most visually ambitious Unreal Engine 5 game yet

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is shaping up to be one of the most visually exciting games of the year. Ninja Theory's cinematic sequel should be making excellent use of Epic's Unreal Engine 5, producing some truly stunning results. At the same time, a lot of early footage for the game has been brief, hard-to-follow, and ridden with compression artefacts - until now. Microsoft released high quality b-roll meaning that we... Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes developer blames "misinformation" for unexpected shipping costs

A number of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Kickstarter backers have been met with unexpected shipping costs, which in some cases have nearly doubled the amount people will pay. On the game's Kickstarter page, supporters have called out developer Rabbit and Bear for its "ridiculous" shipping fees. "Mine's $54 to Malaysia (PC Steam). I backed the game for $60...," one supporter said, with another adding: "$14 for shipping a game, (Standard... Read more ›

For the third year running, Pokémon Go is unofficially celebrating 4/20

Ever wondered about those sleepy spores emitted by Grass-type Pokémon? Ever thought about rolling up their aromatic leaves, and subjecting them to a Fire-type attack? Maybe you haven't, but I'm growing increasingly sure someone at Pokémon Go developer Niantic definitely has - as the game is once again cheekily referencing the upcoming 4/20. Last night, Niantic announced that this month's Community Day - to be held on 4/20, or 20th... Read more ›

Broken Roads review - a lonely scavenger hunt for scraps of interest

My favourite RPGs are the ones that really consider exactly who the character is - or can be - in their world. From Tyranny's power-grasping fatebinder in an occupied land, and Harry du Bois's desperate reflection of the ideologies around him in Disco Elysium, Broken Roads' promise of philosophically mapped out moral quandaries in a lawless post-apocalypse looked to fit right in.The idea is that your decisions and dialogue fall... Fallout review – a wild Wasteland safari where naive optimism meets gory mayhem

Boom time: whether by accident or design, the Fallout TV show - announced in 2020 and arriving in a binge-ready eight-episode payload this week - is launching at an auspicious moment. After the mushrooming success of HBO's The Last of Us, screen adaptations of video games have never been hotter or more respectable. Similarly, the lingering impact of Oppenheimer, now forever glowing with Oscar acclaim, means the world has had... Read more ›

Speaking with Game Informer, studio co-founder Gennadiy Korol told the publication that the team was "pretty happy" with where it left the Ori series, which currently consists of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. A day after Nintendo's Wii U server shutdown, fans are using an unofficial trick to play multiplayer online

Wii U fans have brought the console's online multiplayer functionality back online, after Nintendo officially ended its own server support. The new connection method has been provided by Pretendo, a fan collective that has previously provided custom Wii U servers for those willing to tinker with their console. Now, however, Pretendo has said its servers will be open to all users with a simple DNS change - requiring "no homebrew... Read more ›

Call of Duty players unhappy $80 Kong glove costs more than the game

The Call of Duty team has released a new, King Kong-themed glove into the game, and it hasn't exactly gone down well with players. This melee weapon is known as the BEAST glove (today I learned, BEAST stands for Bio-Enhanced Anatomech Seismic Thunder), and promises that its wielder will be able to "punch as hard as Kong". Which, on paper, sounds pretty useful. However, this glove can only be acquired... Read more ›
