The Xbox 360 car crash that didn't foretell the generation… or did it?

November 2005. I'd just turned 23 - not long out of university and about to push forward with my career in games media properly by moving into a house/office in an attempt to make something out of what was to become VideoGamer.com (don't visit it now, I warn you). This was, it's not hyperbolic to say, one of the most important moments in my life. It was also about to... Read more ›

After 18 hours flying economy with Sony's WH-1000XM6, I may just have a new favourite pair of ANC headphones

When I travel, I always bring a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. I pretty much have to. To listen to music and to block out as much of the outside world as possible. I'm quite fortunate in the job that I do that allows me to basically take a different pair of headphones or earbuds every time I go, and I think I've found the pair that'll be sticking with me... Here's my one Skies of Arcadia anecdote, to celebrate the brilliant pirate RPG's 25th anniversary

Usually, I'd start one of these retrospective things with a wiggly line transition to the past for a bit of the old nostalgia-tickling scene-setting. The trouble is, my one overriding memory of Skies of Arcadia is so powerful I can barely remember anything else about the game at all. I can't, for instance, recall where I was when I played it, or even when; and I'm certainly not going to... Read more ›

I'm loving a pirate's life in Civilization 7, which keeps getting better as Firaxis' diligent updates continue

It's fair to say that upon its initial release, Sid Meier's Civilization 7 rather split opinion. I don't think anybody would argue that it was the best-ever Civ game out of the gate. Nobody sane would, anyway. But for a breadth of opinion you only need look at my review on VG247 when compared to the verdict here on Eurogamer. On release, those two opinions were two stars and worlds... Read more ›

Are premium wireless earbuds all that different in 2025?

If there's one area of tech that's exploded in recent times. It's wireless earbuds with noise-cancelling powers. We've seen all sorts of options emerge up and down the price ladder from both established audio players and newcomers, and here I thought I'd put a few premium pairs I've looked at to the test and come to a conclusion of whether any of them are much different and worth your time....
