Former Valve writer hits out at Epic Games layoffs: "It's not like they're a publicly traded company. It's not like there's some need to hit the stock market thing. This is Tim"

Prolific former Valve writer, Chet Faliszek, has hit out at Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney, asking why anyone at Epic "should work hard" when staff have no agency and "the recent 1,000 job cuts didn't come because of shareholder pressure". Read more Read more ›

FBC: Firebreak review

On my best runs, with the best accidental match-ups, I've been the watering can guy. I'll deploy alongside two far more talented players, and they'll fix machinery and fight the hordes while I handle the watering. I'll put out ground-based fires to allow for freedom of movement and to stop enemies being enraged by flames. I'll put out any fires on my allies when they accidentally set light to themselves,... Switch 2 third-party sales reportedly mostly "very low" despite record-breaking console launch

Switch 2 has got off to a flying start, with Nintendo proudly trumpeting the console as its "fastest-selling hardware ever" just days after launch. But while things are looking rosy for Nintendo, a new report suggests third-party titles have so far struggled, with one third-party publisher saying sales have been "below our lowest estimates". Dune Awakening’s early meta is an unbalanced, helicopter-infested nightmare, and I never want it to end

The Dune: Awakening community is torn right now. In the Deep Desert, roaming hordes of orniphopters (the Dune equivilent of a plane or helicopter) are dominating the end game and making an already dangerous area even more perilous. The thing is, I don't think this is a bad thing. In fact, I think it's good for the game in the long run. Read more Read more ›

With Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, Atlus proves that the muddy ground between remaster and remake can be a good thing, actually

I really don't think anyone out there does it like Atlus. For better or for worse, really. The studio marches to the beat of its own drum without a hint of self-consciousness, spinning weird tales about Satanic rites, the power of friendship, and the end of the world (localised to the city of Tokyo). Whether you're looking at the parent Shin Megami Tensei series, the spin-off Persona games, or the... Read more ›

How real life swordsmen and a search for realism has changed the face of Onimusha in Way of the Sword

It's arguably the perfect time for the return of Onimusha. If we're discounting remasters and strange Japan-exclusive spin-offs, it's been almost twenty years since the last entry in the series - and it does feel a lot like that time has seen the ground prepared for the return of Capcom's demon-slaying samurai series. Switch 2 revitalises Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with better performance and image quality

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Game Freak's 2022 mainline Pokémon games, had infamously poor visuals. Rudimentary lighting, low-res textures and stiff animation afflicted these open-world efforts, while performance dropped below the 30fps target nearly constantly and image quality also suffered. Technically, they were a failure by any reasonable standard, even on the power-constrained OG Switch console. Now the Switch 2 is here and these games have the potential to run significantly...
