Prolific former Valve writer, Chet Faliszek, has hit out at Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney, asking why anyone at Epic "should work hard" when staff have no agency and "the recent 1,000 job cuts didn't come because of shareholder pressure". Read more Read more ›

Jet Set Radio at 25 - movement, place and the concept of love

My time at university is bookended by moments that changed my idea of what games could be. When I started my first year, I saw Tomb Raider running on an upside-down PS1 in someone's dorm and I was stunned and sort of disconcerted. My 2D gaming mind had no idea how to understand a game that seemed so comfortable in three dimensions, but which also - after years of seeing... Read more ›

Nintendo's free Switch 2 upgrades for key Switch 1 titles are remasters in all but name

When Nintendo fully revealed Switch 2, it also announced the existence of 'Switch 2 Editions' - enhanced versions of existing games, upgraded for the new hardware. Charging for this has been viewed as somewhat controversial but the fact is that in addition to paid upgrades, Nintendo has also released a range of free patches that deliver game-changing improvements. We've already talked about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but that's just the... Read more ›

A year after that PSN fiasco, Helldivers 2's long-anticipated review bomb cape is finally here

Cast your mind back to a year or so ago, and you might remember Helldivers being in a bit of a funny old place. On the one hand, it was a huge critical and commercial success; on the other, it was being review-bombed into oblivion thanks to Sony's mandatory PSN nonsense. Eventually, all that hoo-hah died down, but not before developer Arrowhead suggested it might commemorate the whole affair with... Read more ›

Don't buy that cute Switch 2 Piranha Plant camera - it's rubbish

While I'm yet to really appreciate any major benefit of the Nintendo Switch 2's GameChat feature, I'm nevertheless always hardware-curious. I'm a tech nerd; I want to know what companies are shipping and how good it is. With that in mind, let me sound the alarm with a warning: do not buy that cutesy Switch 2 camera shaped like a Piranha Plant. If you buy it, to be blunt, peripheral... Read more ›
