Dying Light: The Beast manages to be a very entertaining video game despite repeatedly insisting on being a boring one

I didn't much like the original Dying Light, which came as a bit of a surprise given how entertaining the whole thing sounded on paper. Extreme violence and undead slaughter? Check! Ludicrous gravity defying parkour action? Here! Spooky night-time bits against powerful foes designed to properly ramp up the tension? You got it! A winning formula by any measure; it's just a shame it was all buried in a package... Read more ›

"It was really hard to publish on Xbox. It was our job to make it easier" - inside Xbox's increasingly vital indie publishing operation

My first major memory of Indie Games on Xbox platforms is a pleasant one, and it's precisely the sort of memory I feel most appropriate for the medium. This was a tiny self-published affair - nary a publisher in sight, what I assume was a solo developer, and an extremely limited scope. I'm not talking about Hollow Knight, or Balatro, or Braid, or Limbo or what have you. I'm talking... Read more ›

Cosy builder Town to City feels like a lovely autumnal treat, but honestly I'm just having fun planting flowers

I knew Town to City had ensnared me in its nefarious trap the moment it told me I could customise individual window boxes. Yes, this early access city builder is one of those games, seemingly aimed specifically at weirdos like me whose idea of bliss is hours spent in a serene reverie of fastidious path-laying and flower-planting, all in the name of aesthetic perfection. And if you count yourself in... Read more ›
