Considering the huge success of the Fallout TV show, it may be surprising that Bethesda doesn't have a new game to coincide with its release. Yet Bethesda boss Todd Howard believes the franchise is healthy and turns to the "sneaky popular" MMORPG Fallout 76 as a key indicator. Howard was interviewed by Kinda Funny Games and was asked whether Bethesda wanted a new game in the series alongside the TV... Read more ›

Let's be honest. Whenever playing a Jackbox party game, the urge is always there to make things a little bit more risqué than the developer may have originally had in mind. Don't lie, we all do it. Well, it turns out that Jackbox is well aware of those players that like to 'go there' (wink, wink, nudge, nudge), and has devised an adult's only collection of games known as the... Read more ›

Pocketpair has revealed four new Pals coming to Palworld in its big summer update. In addition to the four Pals, it looks like a flamethrower weapon will be added. Presumably, too, we'll get the Arena mode that was recently teased at the Triple-i showcase, which looks a bit like Pokémon Stadium. So who are the four new Pals? We don't yet know the names, but the first is a frog... Read more ›

One of Xbox's greatest treasures, Sea of Thieves is finally launching on PS5 today and I, Iyaaaaarrrn Higton, have swabbed my poop deck and spliced my mainbrace in anticipation for this momentous occasion.Sea of Thieves has actually been in open beta on PS5 for the past week and, according to Digital Foundry's Oliver Mackenzie, "Sea of Thieves retains its signature charm - and should go down well with PlayStation players."... I'm switching back and forth between Hades 2 and Rotwood at the moment, which is probably why I've found myself tangled up in how the two games are similar and how they're different. On paper, you can make them sound really quite similar: Like Hades 2, Klei's latest is an action-RPG in which you take your character and head out through a series of enemy-filled rooms, defeating all the monsters you... We're in the middle of a bit of a monitor revolution that comes around once every few years, as new panel types take hold and wow the crowds. That's certainly the case in 2024 with a slew of new monitors based around Samsung's third-gen QD-OLED panels. We've been focusing on the 32-inch 4K 240Hz offerings, which include the sublime Asus ROG Swift PG32UCDM, which we lauded as the best gaming... Read more ›

It's been a while since Bethesda's had anything significant to say about Starfield, but that should be changing soon - not only is its Shattered Space story expansion now confirmed to be gearing up for an autumn release, a new free update should be launching soon. Shattered Space first reared its head last June, when it was bundled into a couple of Starfield special editions for release sometime this year.... Read more ›

Vampire Survivors - still vampire-free before you ask - has surprise-launched its brand-new Laborratory update - a "hyper realistic holiday themed" update so mindblowingly spectacular, developer Poncle is even going as far as to herald it a "AAAA" release. The free Laborratory update (yes, with two 'r's) plunges players deep into the dark halls of a science lab - a "former pinnacle of weapons science, now overtaken by the forces... Read more ›

If you've played Kaizen Game Works' wonderully weird cosmic-horror-tinged vapourware deduction adventure Paradise Killer, you'll know the studio isn't afraid to mix things up, and its newly announced Promise Mascot Agency looks to be an equally wild, genre-bending ride. Kaizen Game Works describes Promise Mascot Agency as the "world's first (and best) open-world mascot management crime drama", and it charts the adventures of a disgraced yakuza lieutenant - Michizane "Michi"... You could call this week's DF Direct an assemblage of patch tests as they arrived thick and fast for a range of titles, in varying degrees of scale. The addition of a 40fps 'favour quality' mode in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora strikes an excellent balance between resolution and visual features for Xbox Series X and PS5, while Lords of the Fallen's 1.5 update finally addressed the long-standing '0fps' problem we... With the success of the Fallout TV show, the recent release of the next-gen update for Fallout 4 and the fact that (in my humble opinion) Fallout 76 is well worth a go nowadays, there's a high chance that you are one of the millions of people who are currently jumping back into Bethesda's post-apocalyptic adventures, or indeed trying them out for the very first time. Recently, I've noticed a... Read more ›

A Stardew Valley mod will add the likes of Astarian and Shadowheart from Baldur's Gate 3. The project was shared over the weekend, with a tease of the mod's map (appropriately called Baldur's Village) and its pixelated Baldur's Gate 3 residents. The mod's team - which comprises three dedicated fans - said it is currently working on Astarion, Shadowheart, Gale and Halsin, but more characters will come. Oh, and we... Read more ›

The dinky yellow Playdate handheld has plenty of odd games already - but here's an even odder proposition we thought we'd never see: WipEout. Yes, that WipEout, of PlayStation fame. Except not quite. For starters, this version of Psygnosis' classic retro racer is based on rewritten code that has been floating around the internet since at least last year for PC, Mac and Linux. This version, in turn, was written... Read more ›
