Only in the Netherlands could this BBC correspondent bring us the news by ebike

Every once in a while someone comes along and shows that we can do things differently. One of those people is BBC News foreign correspondent Anna Holligan. Yesterday, Holligan posted a video on Twitter to bring us the daily news update from the Netherlands as she cycled along. Check it out below. Dutch news from the cycle path. Early edition. pic.twitter.com/7ShdDaTzLk — anna holligan 🎙 (@annaholligan) May 3, 2021 I... Read more â€ș

The 3 most important lessons I learned as a bootstrapped founder

Let me start with a bold statement. You can build a SaaS company from the ground up, without any outside help. And the best thing is, you don’t need luck or privilege to bootstrap. You can achieve it with tons of blood, sweat, and tears — along with valuing every penny and using every resource at your disposal. Then after some trial-and-error, you’ll get there. I had an idea, and... Read more â€ș

Sex bots, virtual friends, VR lovers: tech is changing the way we interact, and not always for the better

Twenty-first century technologies such as robots, virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) are creeping into every corner of our social and emotional lives — hacking how we form friendships, build intimacy, fall in love and get off. In my recently-published book, I consider the possibilities, both terrifying and inspiring, offered by these “artificially intimate” technologies. On one hand, these tools can help deliver much-needed support. On the other, they... Read more â€ș

So if you have more than 600 followers, you can host a Spaces session on Twitter’s iOS or Android app. But no matter how many followers you have, you can still tune in... Read more â€ș

Apple analyst predicts an 8-inch folding iPhone will arrive in 2023

Ming-Chi Kuo, the usually-reliable Apple analyst, is at it again with another prediction years in advance. According to Kuo, Apple may be planning to release its foldable iPhone in 2023. As reported by MacRumors, Kuo claims that the foldable iPhone might sport an “8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED display.” Kuo estimates that the company expects to sell 15-20 million folding units in 2023 “based on Apple’s requested capacity plan.” Interestingly, Kuo... How politicians manipulate the masses with simple AI

We’re three and a half years away from electing another president here in the US, but it’s never to early too prepare ourselves for the impending crapshow that is US politics. The good news is, going forward, you won’t have to think so much. The age of data-based politics is coming to a close thanks to the innovations created by the 2016 Donald Trump campaign and the counteracting tactics employed... Read more â€ș

Facebook’s Oversight Board — something akin to a supreme court for the company — will decide whether to reverse the controversial Trump ban on Wednesday at 9:00 AM ET, according to CNN. The Trump ban went into effect on January 7, a day after the Capitol riot. Zuckerberg said Trump was banned “indefinitely” from Facebook and Instagram, but the matter was then submitted to the company’s Oversight Board on January... Read more â€ș

Massive stellar flare from our closest star is a bad sign for aliens

The Sun isn’t the only star to produce stellar flares. On April 21, 2021, a team of astronomers published new research describing the brightest flare ever measured from Proxima Centauri in ultraviolet light. To learn about this extraordinary event – and what it might mean for any life on the planets orbiting Earth’s closest neighboring star – I spoke with Parke Loyd, an astrophysicist at Arizona State University and co-author... MG wants your money to build its first electric sports car

Specs about the MG Cyberster Concept were out even before its official debut at Shanghai Auto Show. It’s a two-door, two-seater sports car with an eye-catching, futuristic design that I’d say is a bit haunting. Maybe it’s just me, but its grille reminds me of Venom’s smile – yes, Spiderman’s villain. Credit: MG - Edited It’s expected range of 800km and speed of 100kph in less than three seconds aren’t... GPT-3 sucks at pick-up lines — here’s what that tells us about computer-generated language

Have you ever wondered what flirting with artificial intelligence would look like? Research scientist and engineer Janelle Shane has given us an idea by training a neural network – an algorithm loosely inspired by biological brain structures – to produce chat-up lines. Some of the results are hilarious and completely nonsensical, such as the inelegant: “2017 Rugboat 2-tone Neck Tie Shirt”. But some of them turned out pretty well. At... Read more â€ș

Supple fishbot survives jaunt to the deepest part of the ocean

The deepest regions of the oceans still remain one of the least explored areas on Earth, despite their considerable scientific interest and the richness of lifeforms inhabiting them. Two reasons for this are the low temperatures and enormous pressures exerted at such depths, which require the exploration equipment be carefully shielded inside high-strength metal or ceramic chambers to withstand them. This makes deep-sea exploration vessels bulky, expensive and unwieldy, as... Read more â€ș

Germany has enough lithium for 400M EVs, but extracting it won’t be easy

Germany has struck gold! Well, not gold, but it’s the electric vehicle equivalent. It’s actually discovered a rich vein of lithium, the precious metal that’s a vital ingredient in electric vehicle batteries. As reported by Reuters, the European nation is sitting on enough lithium to make 400 million electric cars. The precious metal, geologists say, is thousands of meters deep below the earth’s surface in molten form, beneath the Rhine... Read more â€ș

Clubhouse is finally testing an Android version of its popular live-audio app. In an announcement, the company said that it’s trying out this version with “a handful of friendly testers.” This means the app is currently in a closed beta— so you can’t sign up to try it just yet —with more users to be included in the coming weeks.
